Amid a backdrop of global conflicts and crises, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is advocating for a revitalized partnership between Türkiye and the United States. Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Erdoğan emphasized the importance of enhanced dialogue and cooperation between the two NATO allies to address international challenges effectively.
Erdoğan highlighted the positive outcomes that have emerged from the bilateral cooperation on various international issues, particularly in the Middle East. He stressed Türkiye’s commitment to deepening coordination with Washington, suggesting that collaboration could be expanded in key sectors such as nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry. Erdoğan called for the removal of barriers to joint defense production, underscoring the potential benefits for both nations.
In his address, Erdoğan noted the significant growth of Türkiye’s defense industry, with annual defense exports skyrocketing from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion. He expressed optimism that Türkiye is on track to become one of the top 10 defense exporters globally, reflecting the country’s growing influence in the defense sector.
Erdoğan also extended an invitation to U.S. investors to explore opportunities in Türkiye, highlighting the nation’s favorable foreign investment climate and new incentives designed to attract international business. He announced a new investment drive in Türkiye, aimed at fostering economic growth through a competitive incentive framework.
U.S. Senator Chris Coons, who was also present at the event, underscored the enduring partnership between the two countries. He highlighted the significant role that business ties and entrepreneurship play in strengthening bilateral relations. The gala brought together senior officials and business leaders from both nations, celebrating the longstanding diplomatic and economic ties that have defined U.S.-Türkiye relations.
