President Donald Trump has ended all trade talks with Canada, and he is citing the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation’s criticism of a Canadian ad as part of his justification.
The foundation had stated the ad, from Ontario, used “selective audio” to “misrepresent” Reagan’s 1987 speech.
Trump echoed this in his truth social post, calling the ad “fraudulent” and “fake.” He accused Canada of “egregious behavior.”
He then announced the “termination” of all trade negotiations, a move confirmed by secretary of state Marco Rubio.
The ad was a protest against 35% US tariffs on Canadian goods, which have hit Ontario’s economy hard.
