Christopher McQuarrie has officially confirmed that Top Gun 3 is moving forward, and its story is already figured out. The acclaimed director shared the news on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, crediting a single, effective conversation with Ehren Kruger.
Though unsure if he’ll direct it himself, McQuarrie is doing his homework on Tony Scott’s style to ensure any sequel stays true to its roots. The emotional heartbeat of the film, he says, will be more important than any action sequence.
In another exciting revelation, he confirmed active development on a spinoff for Les Grossman, Tom Cruise’s hilariously unhinged character from Tropic Thunder. The project is still very much alive.
