New US-Jordan Agreement Enhances Bilateral Economic and Trade Relations

by admin477351

The United States and Jordan have forged a new trade agreement designed to enhance economic ties and eliminate barriers that hinder business activities in both nations. This deal ensures that the majority of American products will continue to have duty-free entry into Jordan, while both countries collaborate to address logistical challenges and trade barriers, aiming to facilitate a smoother flow of goods.

This agreement is part of President Donald Trump’s broader initiative to strengthen economic and strategic relations in the Middle East, as stated by US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. The initiative seeks to provide American exporters with access to new markets, thus expanding their global reach.

Yarub Qudah, Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, highlighted that Jordanian exports to the US will attract a 10 percent tariff, while American exports will continue to enjoy exemption under the current free-trade framework. He expressed optimism that this agreement would lead to increased investments between the two countries.

Back in 2001, the US and Jordan signed a landmark free-trade agreement, marking Jordan as the first Arab nation to enter such an accord with Washington. By 2010, all duties under this agreement were eliminated. The trade relationship between the two countries was valued at $5.34 billion in 2025, with Jordan exporting chemicals, garments, mineral products, and precious stones. Its main import sources include China, Saudi Arabia, the US, and the United Arab Emirates.
