Zelenskyy Criticizes Trump’s Pause on Russia Sanctions, Warns of War Escalation

by admin477351

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed concern over the United States’ decision to pause new sanctions against Russia, fearing it could embolden Russian President Vladimir Putin to intensify military actions in Ukraine. Zelenskyy criticized the move, which was initiated by US President Donald Trump, as a potential setback to international efforts aimed at resolving the conflict.

The proposed sanctions that are now on hold included measures targeting Russia’s energy sector, financial institutions, and oil transportation networks. Additionally, the legislation suggested imposing tariffs of up to 100% on countries importing Russian oil, such as China and India. The US administration has reportedly paused these sanctions for 60 days to assess their potential economic impact.

Amidst these developments, Russia has continued its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, raising alarms about possible electricity shortages as winter approaches. Zelenskyy has called for increased international support to bolster Ukraine’s air defense capabilities to protect civilians and vital services.

Furthermore, Zelenskyy has voiced concerns about limitations affecting Starlink satellite internet services used by Ukrainian troops, warning that such disruptions could impede military operations. This issue highlights ongoing differences between Washington and Kyiv regarding sanctions, military support, and strategies to end the war.

Despite these challenges, Zelenskyy remains steadfast in his belief that sustained economic and military pressure on Russia is crucial for achieving lasting peace. He has urged the US and European countries to maintain and strengthen their diplomatic and economic measures against Moscow.
